ALLOWANCE PROCESS

Allowance Process: Services

Buttondown Remodeling works with a list of allowance items for kitchen, bathroom, basements, and other larger remodel projects.  Allowances work well for the homeowners since very few homeowners have made all their selections when we write the proposal.

The allowance list includes all the items for which the owner makes the final decisions.  For example, in a bathroom I include the vanity, vanity top, tub, toilet, faucets, shower door, wall and floor tile on the allowance list.

I set the allowance amount individually for each project.  In our first appointment, we discuss the options for each item on the allowance list to determine your preferences.  I then build the allowance list for your project.  The allowance amounts reflect the budgeted cost for the items after my generous contractor discounts are applied.

At the end of the project, I total the budgeted amount for the allowances and the actual amount spent on allowance items.  The difference is added or subtracted from the final payment.

Before we begin the renovation project, you will need to make all final selections.  I recommend that you select your allowance items in the following order: cabinets, countertop, flooring, sink, faucet, tile, and paint color.
